There’s a lot going on in the health club/personal training advertising and marketing space. However, there is little agreement on which particular strategies and tactics are must-haves.
The general recommendation from many consultants is that owners and managers should have a range of advertising tactics, both online and offline, in play at anyone time. In fact, some consultants claim to have hundreds (even thousands) of strategies, tactics, tips, and systems (of course that’s more stuff they can sell you).
It, ostensibly, seems like sound advice… multiple tactics means multiple sources of leads. Makes sense, right?
Here’s the issue I have… do you really need hundreds or thousands of advertising/marketing tactics, let alone strategies? Surely, you only need a few good ones that work really well and a few others that you can substitute in and out as necessary.
Quantity doesn’t equal quality… in fact to do even a dozen tactics really well takes a lot of work. Take websites for example… a few years ago the decree went out that everyone needs a website (which you do by the way) but today very few businesses have a decent website. Today the decree has already gone out that you need to do social networking so everyone is jumping on that (bad website and all).
This pursuit of the “next big thing” has left many owners and managers with a raft of poorly, and/or, partially executed tactics and strategies that never meet expectation and results in what I have referred to as a marketing mess.
OK here’s my Top 5… you can get pretty much all the leads you need with these five relatively low cost strategies:
- iPOS (stay tuned more details coming soon)
- Website (done properly)
- Blog
- Yellow Pages
- Letter/Flyer Drop
