Of course, we have all been raised on the virtues of hard work… put in the hours… pay your dues… get more clients… be in first and out last… impress the boss…
The hard work mentality is so firmly entrenched in our culture it can be difficult to overcome.
Here’s the problem… sometimes hard work is hard because it’s inefficient, ineffective, and unproductive, and no matter how hard you work it will always be inefficient, ineffective, and unproductive.
In fact, we often convince ourselves that if we are busy working hard we are doing all we can possibly do.
But no matter how much you tweak that marketing piece it isn’t going to work… no matter how much staff training you do that employee isn’t going to get it… no matter how many new members you get this month you are just going to have to replace them next month…
Sure work hard… but don’t let hard work can get in the way of good work.
